FREQUENTLY
ASKED
QUESTIONS

A few things you may want to know before getting started.

Do I need window and door experience?
No. The Professional Technician program is designed to build a foundation from the ground up, so previous window and door experience isn’t required. If you already work in windows, doors, construction, remodeling, maintenance, or another related trade, the training can help you build on that experience with a stronger focus on diagnostics and service.
Is this an installation course?
No. FTI is focused on window and door service, diagnostics, and troubleshooting—not installation training. You’ll learn how windows and doors are constructed and installed so you can recognize installation-related problems, but the goal is to teach you how to identify what’s wrong, determine the likely cause, and approach service work more effectively.
How long do I have access?
Your course access is lifetime access. You can return to the training, resources, Field Diagnostic App, and growing demonstration library as you continue building your skills and encounter new situations in the field.
How does certification work?
Certification is included with the Independent Service Professional program. After completing the training, you’ll work through scenario-based assessments designed to test how you apply what you’ve learned—not just whether you can memorize information. Certification is designed to demonstrate your ability to work through realistic window and door service situations using the diagnostic process taught in the course.
Does the course include hands-on service demonstrations?
Yes. FTI includes hands-on service demonstrations, and the demonstration library will continue to grow. New demonstrations and training content will be added based in part on student feedback, questions, and areas of need, so the library can evolve around the situations technicians are actually encountering. The larger focus of FTI, however, is teaching you how to diagnose the problem before deciding what needs to be repaired or replaced.
What’s included in the live Q&A?
Live Q&A sessions give Independent Service Professional students the opportunity to speak directly with an experienced window and door service technician about course material, diagnostic questions, real-world service situations, and challenges they encounter in the field. Live Q&A is an added support feature and may be modified or discontinued in the future.
Can this help me start my own business?
Yes. The Independent Service Professional program includes additional training on customer communication, service operations, pricing, billing, disposal, compliance, and other business practices that can help you understand what goes into offering window and door service independently. You’ll also have access to resources and professional connections for areas such as branding, website design, and business strategy to help you take the next steps. FTI gives you a foundation and resources to build from—you decide where you take it.
What’s the difference between the two programs?
Both programs teach the core skills needed to understand, diagnose, and service windows and doors, and both include lifetime access to the Field Diagnostic App. Professional Technician includes Sections 1–8 and is designed for someone who wants to build or strengthen their skills as a technician. Independent Service Professional includes the full Sections 1–10 program, adding business and service-operations training, live Q&A access, additional business resources, and certification.
Will I learn how to repair every brand of window and door?
No—and that isn’t the goal. There are too many manufacturers, product lines, hardware systems, and generations of products for any course to teach every possible repair. FTI focuses on the diagnostic skills and foundational knowledge that transfer across products: understanding how systems work, identifying likely causes, knowing what to inspect, and determining the appropriate next step.
